REPORT EXCERPT: Managing Risk in the Digital Workplace

For organizations, the digital workplace presents opportunities to communicate, collaborate and share information more quickly and freely, both internally and with business partners. With these opportunities the potential risks are also increased, as the channels for monitoring and compliance are multiplied, often across more than one platform.

The risks include: dependency on externally hosted applications and services, the increasingly free flow of information inside and between organizations, and changes to the location of the physical workplace with increased mobile working. The core theme is the move from tight central control to a more distributed model for content and services, and what that means for organizations in terms of the risks and opportunities they face and the way they approach and manage them.

As part of this research, we asked leading organizations about the issues that concerned them and the questions that they had around managing risk in the digital workplace. A number of themes emerged from the responses, which have formed the basis of this report.

About DWF Research

The Digital Workplace Forum (DWF) carries out research into best practice in the Digital Workplace. Covering the hottest topics in the area, the studies we undertake are rooted in practical examples from DWF partner organizations as well as other leading digital enterprises. The results of this in-depth research act as a basis for decision-making, a source of ideas, and the basis for rich interactions between participants at DWF Meet-Ups and DWF Virtuals. Generally, partner organizations are given exclusive access to our findings, although we occasionally make reports available to outside organizations.
